Ecuador Challenge

Bupa Latin America and the Caribbean helps communities across the globe through fundraising programs. The Ecuador Challenge will be our longest and largest project to date.

From September 7 to November 29, 2009, 120 Bupa volunteers will travel to the small agricultural community of Miraflores in Ecuador. They will work together to help build a health and wellbeing center benefiting close to 60 families who live on less than US$6 per day.

The creation of this healthcare center will allow doctors to visit twice a week rather than once every two months. It will feature a childcare facility so the children can be safely looked after while their parents go to work.

Bupa recognizes the importance of receiving a quality education. Therefore, the challenge will also include the construction of classrooms which will offer educational opportunities for all the generations of the community. Due to the lack of resources, many children in this community couldn’t receive an education because they had to travel to a nearby town to go to school. The challenge contemplates building additional rooms so the children and schools can receive even more support.

This project is very significant for Bupa staff to learn the value of their contribution, develop both personally and professionally, and work alongside their global colleagues. By participating in the Ecuador Challenge, Bupa Latin America and the Caribbean will forever live in Miraflores.
