Bupa Commitment
Social responsibility has always been part of Bupa’s business philosophy.
Many businesses deliver social benefit as part of their work. At Bupa, it is at the heart of everything we do. We identify the health and wellbeing needs of our communities, and address them through different programs that include volunteering, fundraising, and staff team challenges. Bupa also donates millions to help charities worldwide.
Our commitment is simple. Bupa pledges to help people live longer, happier, healthier lives. We are committed to enhancing the quality of life of our customers and personnel as well as those of communities in need.
Bupa’s commitment to doing the right thing extends far beyond our customer base. Through our support for medical research, our contribution to the health and care debate, and our community support and charitable giving, Bupa enhances the health and wellbeing of entire communities.

Our local commitment
Aleymi’s Story
We committed to the challenge of helping a one-year old girl from Guatemala in her quest for survival. Aleymi Ramírez suffered from a serious birth malformation that inhibited her from leading a normal healthy life. Her serious condition, if untreated, could be fatal. With the help of Bupa and other generous contributors, we were able to bring Aleymi and her mother to Miami and give her the life-altering surgery and treatment she so desperately needed to survive.

Making the right choice could save your life
Sometimes we go through life without thinking about the unexpected. Unforeseen events can and will happen. How you prepare for these events can make the difference between life and death. This is the story of Alina, who experienced the knowledge, commitment and quality of Bupa’s care first hand in Miami, U.S.A.

Thailand Challenge
In celebration of Bupa’s 60th anniversary, 60 Bupa employees travelled to an orphanage in northern Thailand. Their mission was to help improve the lives of the 126 children at Sarnelli House, all of whom were affected by AIDS and HIV. The impact of their visit was unforgettable both for the orphans and Bupa volunteers.

Donation to Centro Casa de la Caridad
The Centro Casa de la Caridad in Penipe, Ecuador provides assistance to more than 35 disabled children with brain damage, mental delays, and Down’s syndrome, besides providing daily assistance to 42 communities in the area and feeding 500 people.
The Center’s facility had permanent volcanic residue, causing considerable damage to the roof and triggering health problems such as breathing allergies and pulmonary conditions. In order to improve their living conditions, Bupa made a generous donation destined to building a new floor to their facility, sealing the bedrooms to prevent volcanic ash from entering, and providing the necessary medication to address the children’s respiratory problems.

Bupa contributed to Cabecitas de Algodón, a nursing home located on the outskirts of Guatemala City. The home opened its doors in 2002 to provide food, shelter and medication to needy elderly people. The home supports itself through donations, providing care for 52 people. Several upper management executives travelled to Guatemala and presented the Center with a donation, along with cozy blankets for each of its residents.

Dominican Republic Aid
Bupa in Miami and Bupa Dominicana joined efforts to help others in the Dominican Republic. In 2007, Bupa Dominicana donated school supplies to an educational center located in the Guerra Municipality. In December, just ten days after the official end of the hurricane season, Tropical Storm Olga hit the island, causing floods, landslides, and the death of at least 1,000 people. Several Bupa employees in Miami joined efforts to collect much needed funds and provisions to help victims.
